Pigeons In Love

I don't know if pigeons mate for life

Do they argue over groceries, or fret about the weather?

Shouldn't they be brow beaten and humbled by time?

Trees of metal and cement,

they nest in forgotten places.

Eat forgotten food.

They stay through winter,

and will never be crowned state bird.

But, they still know how to love.

Context

I often find myself looking up while I walk. I love the sky.

Today after passing under a bridge I saw to pigeons perched high on a light pole. They were kanoodling. The male bird puffed out just a bit and fussing over the female. It was adorable.

I was one of those moments that reminds how simple and precious life is.

How despite all the extra we are hardwired to desire each other, if only to keep the species going.
