The Art Story: Silhouettes In The Distance

I have always been intrigued by and drawn to shadowy silhouettes.  The moment when a figure becomes just a shadow, loosing distinction and becoming barely identifiable.  

These miniature paintings are stylized silhouettes capturing the essence of theoretical individuals. These shadowed silhouettes are without race or religion. They lack many of the traits we artificially use to create dissension and tension between us. In these paintings we are all homogeneous. All mysterious and beautiful. 

I paint the silhouettes in large batches, over 100 at a time. Each one only get's one fluid brush stroke as I rarely pick up the brush and break the stroke. They are a form of calligraphy for me. They each have their own personality and characteristics.

When shown together it is the slight differences of the silhouettes working together that make it interesting.
